Dishwasher repairs can be complicated to perform, and must be entrusted to a licensed professional. You can however conduct a few basic simple dishwasher repairs, if you have adequate electrical and plumbing DIY skills. Never attempt dishwasher repairs without first switching off all power supply to your appliance. You can do this either by unplugging the dishwasher, or switching off the connection at the fuse box or circuit breaker. Basic repairs may be done at home, but more complex repairs should be left to a professional dishwasher repair service. Some of the most common problems that you can fix yourself at home have to do with improper cleaning of the dishwasher. This usually happens because the dishwasher does not get sufficient water. A defective water inlet valve that is located at the bottom right or left hand side of the machine is usually the culprit. If you find a defective valve, replace it. Newer dishwashers will come with a self cleaning filter that makes regular cleaning redundant. However, if you have a model with a filter that needs regular cleaning, make sure that you remove the filter, and clean it regularly. Clogged filters often lead to improper cleaning.
Clean out the spray arm that's located at the bottom of the appliance, with a safety pin and hot vinegar. Food debris can quickly block the holes causing cleaning problems. If your dishwasher doesn't turn on at all, check to see if there is sufficient power supply to the machine. Burnt or broken wiring can also cause the machine to go dead. It could also be a problem with a defective timer, and if so, dishwasher repairs will involve replacing the timer. If there are problems with draining of water, make sure that there is no clog inside the drain line. Any clogs must be cleared before the water can drain properly. Also, check to see that the dishwasher pump is functioning properly.
To avoid calling dishwasher repair services regularly, take care to maintain your dishwasher. Clean the exterior of the appliance with a damp sponge, and make sure that filters are cleaned regularly. If the dish racks begin to corrode or the plastic coating begins to wear ff, use a dishwasher repair kit to patch these areas. Use only dishwasher specific dish detergents. Make sure that the water is hot enough to clean the dishes properly. A temperature of 120 degrees F is considered ideal. For water to be heated to the ideal temperature, let it run for 30 seconds before you turn on the dishwasher. We can help you locate professional dishwasher repair services in Chicago.
